Our Wind Assessments negate the need for a physical met mast at the site, using our validated process to produce a thorough estimate of the likely long-term average wind speed and energy for your project.
We have a great line-up of services that can help you develop your site faster and with more confidence. Whether you are prospecting for new sites, optimising your turbine selection or re-powering, we can help!
Windclick
This is the first level of wind assessment and is intended for early-stage feasibility checks. It is based on local atmospheric wind conditions, terrain elevation and land use information. It allows a developer to make a quick decision about the viability of the site. The wind data is accurate to the nearest 50m.
Typical use: Early-stage prospecting for wind turbine sites
Wind Speed Estimate Error: +/- 0.7 m/s
Wind speed data used: 1 “typical” year
Level of detail for local features: Simple – 50m resolution
Yield estimate: Not provided
Delivery Timescale: 1 – 2 working days
Wind Resource Assessment
This assessment is more accurate than the feasibility assessment and uses 20 years’ worth of long-term meteorological data. It is aimed at site developers looking to securing funding for their project. It provides estimates of W50 and W90, as well as P50 and P90. The assessment uses our validated wind assessment process. The wind maps are accurate to 5m x 5m. The report covers two scenarios (two different types of turbine, hub heights or locations). If you require data for further scenarios you can amend or add to the original report.
Typical use: Securing finance
Wind Speed Estimate Error: +/- 0.35 m/s
Level of detail for local features: Detailed – High resolution topography, buildings and trees
Wind speed data used: 20 years of data
Power estimate: P50 and P90, both adjusted for main technical losses
Other data: Loss coefficients for technical losses
Scenarios: 2 as standard
Delivery Timescale: 10 – 15 working days
Site Suitability Assessment
The aim of this report is to provide evidence that the site is suitable for your chosen model of wind turbine. It provides extreme gusts, turbulence, shear and weibull statistics as well as wind speed and power estimates. The assessment uses our validated wind assessment process. The wind maps are accurate to 5m x 5m. The report covers two scenarios (two different types of turbine, hub heights or locations). If you require data for further scenarios you can amend or add to the original report.
Typical use: Assessing the suitability of the site for a specific turbine
Wind Speed Estimate Error: +/- 0.35 m/s
Level of detail for local features: Detailed – High resolution topography, buildings and trees
Wind speed data used: 20 years of data
Power estimate: P50 and P90, both adjusted for main technical losses.
Other data: Loss coefficients for technical losses, Turbulence, Shear, Extreme gusts, Wind Statistics
Scenarios: 2 as standard
Delivery Timescale: 10 – 15 working days
Wind Farm Assessment
This product is aimed at developers of wind farms, or sites with existing turbines in the surrounding area. Standard WRA or SSA assessments model how a single turbine performs in up to 2 scenarios (adjusting turbine types or locations). This assessment is designed to analyse how a turbine performs when there are others nearby which could limit the production from the turbine. This product uses industry-standard software which models how the wakes produced by a turbine affect the surrounding air, and how this affects any other turbines in turn. The data is accurate to a 2.5m x 2.5m grid at this point.
Typical use: Detailed wind and energy yield assessment for wind farm financing
Wind speed estimate error: +/- 0.35 m/s
Level of detail for local features: Detailed – High resolution topography, buildings and trees
Wind speed data used: 20 years of data
Power estimate: P50 and P90, both adjusted for main technical losses including wake losses.
Other data: Loss coefficients for technical losses, Turbulence, Shear, Extreme gusts, Wind Statistics
Delivery Timescale: Dependent on scope
